A few years ago when you walked to the audiophile world meant to leave you a fortune on headphones, amplifiers, speakers, DACs and a host of devices to improve more slowly sound about the most obscene the simsons prices. Gradually have appeared audio brands offering the same at more affordable prices the simsons without sacrificing quality, single brand varies.
Today we are at the first player FiiO, a Chinese brand recently created that from the beginning we have shown the desire the simsons to have and good work. Products like the FiiO FiiO E7 or E11 since its inception have demonstrated their good work. Now they have gone one step further in sound quality and finishes FiiO E12 with Mont Blanc in paragraph portable amplifiers and the product then we will analyze the FiiO X3. The first player that I advance FiiO has left us a classic feel.
Touchdown When we received it we find a cardboard box that gives a fairly the simsons minimalist feeling to which we are accustomed FiiO. Upon opening it we find a discount coupon for music in HD (24-bit and 96-192kHz) for HDTracks.com one of the best sites to buy music with recordings kept something very important and as detailed in the internal memory FiiO comes an entire disk complimentary 24/192 that sounds the simsons scary.
Below we find the FiiO X3, within a gray translucent silicone sleeve and a protective put factory (plus 2 extra that brings). Great point by the FiiO make life easier in a position to protect.
It is constructed of anodized aluminum in most of the assembly is very very good. We further includes philips screws (star) to dismantle it to replace the battery, etc.. I read a complaint about the screws, I like them, gives a rough industrial and touch the player.
Back (keep playing down leads to a rapid drop). Forward and backward in the menus used to scroll up and down. The volume buttons on submenus used to change parameters. Finally, play / pause is used to select and turn on / off the player.
The USB can only be used to transfer files and charge the player. I hope that in the future using the player as a DAC / AMP like FiiO E17 with which it shares many similarities in hardware is enabled.
Now for the interface, simple, minimalist and intuitive. We have all we can expect from a player categories (album, artist and genre). A section folder navigation list (playlist). EQ for bass and treble Gapless A gain selector: (. Sennheiser HD800, Beyerdynamic T1, etc.) floor for IEMs and portable, high headphones for high impedance headphones
While the player works fluid and the menus are very simple room for improvement is high, some options do not work 100%, the gapless for example only works on album cover art on some files are not read, the file format iTunes not added to the library, if you stick saturates many gigs, etc..
From FiiO have confirmed that they are working on these failures and will be updating the player also extending the battery life to about 14-15h from the current 10-11h. It is comforting to know that every day will improve from a very good base.
The navigation buttons is very good, the configuration possibilities are quite spacious and currently meets the needs of the most demanding almost completely and with future updates the simsons that might almost disappear.
With lossy formats (MP3, MP2, OGG, AAC, WMA) player sounds remarkably good. But with lossless formats (Lossless) the simsons you can see a noticeable improvement in every aspect of sound that we perceive more the higher the quality of the file, remembering that no sun
